Psychotherapy in Cumbernauld, Airdrie & Online

Therapy that helps you understand yourself - and move forward

You may be feeling anxious, overwhelmed or stuck. Perhaps something has happened that you're struggling to come to terms with, or you've reached a point where the ways you've always coped don't seem to be working anymore.

You don't need to have a diagnosis, or even know exactly what's wrong, to come to therapy.

I offer face-to-face psychotherapy in Cumbernauld and Airdrie, welcoming clients from across North Lanarkshire, Glasgow, Falkirk and surrounding areas. Online therapy is also available.

A more personal approach to therapy

I'm Karen, a qualified psychotherapist and CBT therapist working with adults.

People come to therapy for all sorts of reasons. You might be struggling with anxiety or overthinking, the impact of difficult experiences, low mood, grief, relationships, self-esteem, stress or simply a feeling that something isn't quite right.

Sometimes you can understand perfectly well why you think or behave in a certain way - and still find yourself repeating the same patterns.

That's where therapy can help.

For me, therapy isn't simply about applying a technique or working through a set of exercises. It starts with understanding you - what's happened in your life, what you've learned about yourself along the way, how you've learned to cope, and what might now be keeping you stuck.

Therapy that feels human

Although Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) forms the foundation of my training, I don't believe therapy should feel clinical or formulaic.

People are complicated. What looks like anxiety, low mood, anger or avoidance on the surface can make much more sense when we understand what sits underneath it.

Our work is collaborative. I'll listen carefully, but I won't simply sit silently while you do all the talking. I'll ask questions, help you make connections and, when it may be useful, gently challenge you or offer another perspective.

We might use practical CBT strategies, Compassion Focused Therapy, ACT, mindfulness or other approaches where they're helpful - but I won't try to fit you into a particular model.

Sometimes we'll be trying to understand why the same patterns keep showing up and what might help you do something differently.

And sometimes what you most need is simply to be heard.

What might bring you to therapy?

You might be experiencing anxiety or persistent overthinking; trauma or the impact of difficult past experiences; low mood; low self-esteem or self-criticism; grief or loss; relationship or family difficulties; stress or burnout; difficult life changes; or a sense of feeling stuck or disconnected from yourself.

You may recognise several of these, or none of them.

You don't have to fit neatly into a particular category. We can begin with what's happening for you now.
